Has Spring Sprung for You?

My Star Magnolia is bursting with blooms

Are you feeling Springy? Here in the Pacific Northwest we certainly are getting a sneak peek of “Spring” weather. It’s kind of like that here though. Little peek-a-boo sprints of amazing weather, followed by a week straight of downpours to a few days of freezing temps. We all sigh and lament our choice of locale during this time, but then we embrace it in the very next breath. Do you have a favorite season? Is it Spring? I go back and forth between Spring, Summer and Fall with my least spectacular season being Winter. I chalk that up to the expectations of the holidays, the inability to go barefoot outside and the lack of a wood burning fireplace. 🙂 Spring is a season of new beginnings and renewal, and people all around the world celebrate it in various ways. It might be fun to experience another cultures tradition of welcoming Spring. Is there one that speaks to you? Maybe give it a go! Here are some of the most popular ways to celebrate the arrival of spring among various cultures the world over:

  1. Holi: Holi is a popular Hindu festival celebrated in India and Nepal, which marks the beginning of spring. People throw colored powder and water at each other, dance, and celebrate with traditional food and music.
  2. Cherry Blossom Festivals: In Japan and other countries with a strong Japanese influence, people celebrate the blooming of cherry blossoms. They enjoy picnics, parties, and other outdoor activities to appreciate the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
  3. Easter: Easter is a Christian holiday celebrated in many countries around the world, which marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ. People decorate Easter eggs, have Easter egg hunts, and eat traditional Easter foods like hot cross buns.
  4. Nowruz: Nowruz is the Persian New Year celebrated in Iran and other countries with Persian influence. People prepare traditional food, visit friends and family, and decorate their homes with flowers.
  5. May Day: May Day is a holiday celebrated in many countries on May 1st, which marks the beginning of spring. People often have outdoor picnics, parties, and parades.
  6. Spring Cleaning: Spring cleaning is a tradition in many cultures, where people clean their homes thoroughly at the start of spring to welcome the new season.
  7. Planting and Gardening: Spring is the time for planting and gardening, and many people celebrate by starting their gardens and planting new flowers and vegetables.
  8. Earth Day: Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd in many countries around the world, and it is a day to appreciate and protect the environment. People often participate in environmental activities like planting trees, cleaning up litter, and recycling.

These are just a few examples of the many ways people celebrate the arrival of spring around the world. Of course, there are so many other things to do or even just to watch and witness. The emersion of the Dandelions, Crocuses, Oso Berry, Daffodils, Tulips, Bleeding Heart, buds of all sorts. Then there are the choruses of the frogs and the rat-a-tat-tat of the Norther Red-shafted Flickers starting their search for this season’s baby-momma. HAHAHA!

Please, share with me what your favorite thing to do or see in Spring is, it might even be a feeling. That’s perfectly welcome too!
